SJFS will introduce its three-part, 2009 Global Cinema Series, with Cinema Italia from February 21st to 24th. A four-day, festival experience, this program celebrates Italy, a nation and people deeply-rooted in its cinematic legacies and traditions.

Cinema Italia films will be announced in December 2008.

On the Opening Night of Cinema Italia will be the Film Society Spring Gala on February 21, 2009, an exquisite celebration featuring Italian cuisine, fine wine, an arts exhibition, a fashion show by local student designers, and the announcement of the Official Selection of the 2009 San Joaquin International Film Festival (SJIFF09).

The San Joaquin International Film Festival, the California Central Valley's premier celebration of global cinema, will return to Stockton for its second year from May 14th to 21st, and will feature over 110 films from 30 countries, in 60 programs and events across the multi-cultural city. Featuring: a bold collection of international and award-winning narrative features, documentaries, American indies; highlights to include cinema spotlights, tributes, and an exhilarating collection of the world's top short films; guest filmmakers, parties, and programs for all ages. SJIFF09 will be eight magical days of excitement, and surprises!
