1st SAN JOAQUIN CHILDREN'S FILM FESTIVAL
at the Stockton Empire Theatre
SJFS is proud to introduce the international 2009 San Joaquin Children's Film Festival, a new film festival for kids of all ages. Explore and sample the world of global children cinema right here in the Central Valley at SJCFF09. Experience a special presentation of "Azur and Asmar: The Prince's Quest," a new film by the acclaimed, French animator Michael Ocelot. The flagship film will lead a unique, vibrant, and dynamic collection of 21 feature and short films from around the world, including: the vibrant award-winning documentaries "Darius Goes West" and "Going on 13;" and a memorable collection of 18 shorts, including Student Oscar® winner "Zoologic" and Festival de Cannes Short Films Corner-selected "His Good Will" and "Papiroflexia." These 21 films have screened at over 300 festivals around the world, collectively. Be inspired through a young filmmakers' workshop and conversations with guest artists. All events will take place at the Stockton Empire Theatre, in Stockton's famous Miracle Mile District. Tickets are now on sale.

CINEMA ITALIA
and the FILM SOCIETY SPRING GALA
at the Stockton Empire Theatre
The 2009 San Joaquin Film Society Spring Gala will open Cinema Italia, a three-day sample of the works of gifted Italian filmmakers and storytellers, and a celebration of their creations. The gala will be an exquisite celebration featuring the highly-anticipated announcement of The Official Selection of the first 100 films of the May 2009's San Joaquin International Film Festival, along with Italian-American cuisine and fine wine.Three feature films and five short films will make up the program of Cinema Italia, with an eclectic collection of stories of family, immigration, romance, friendships, cultural exchange, globalization, economic hardships, history, facism, coming-of-age, sports, and ethical issues.

The California Central Valley's premier celebration of global cinema will return to Stockton for its second year and will feature over 100 films from 30 countries, in 50 programs and events across the multi-cultural city. Featuring: a bold collection of international and award-winning narrative features, documentaries, American indies; highlights to include cinema spotlights, tributes, and an exhilarating collection of the world's top short films; guest filmmakers, parties, and programs for all ages. This will be eight memorable days of celebration, excitement, and surprises! Festival lineup and additional venues to be announced in February 2009

JEWISH FILM WEEK
at the Stockton Empire Theatre
SJFS presents Jewish Film Week, an international film series from June 13 to 18, 2009. Valley audiences will experience a stellar showcase of new, innovative, celebrated, diverse and significant works in Jewish cinema from around the world. Special programs will include educational discussions, guest artists, and festive galas. Official Selection will be announced in March 2009.

GREEK CINEMA SERIES

Greek Cinema Series will feature works from new, celebrated and innovative Greek filmmakers and storytellers, capturing the Greek experience and history. Films and schedule will be announced in May 2009.

1st CALIFORNIA INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL
Closing the 2009 season will be the inauguration of the California International Documentary Film Festival, a new, non-competitive, global showcase dedicated to promoting gifted documentarians and dynamic storytellers by cultivating knowledge and understanding of our world through documentary cinema and storytelling. The six-day festival will feature new works, new directors, a spotlight on California documentarians, an exhilarating global showcase, panels, workshops, master tributes, conversations with storytellers, galas, and special events. Call for Entries to be announced in Spring 2009. Film line-up and schedule will be announced in October 2009.

SJFS, in association with Cibo di Vino Restaurant and Matinée Movie Lounge, presents a unique exhibition partnership of 40 nights of film programs and special events from February to November 2009. A richly-diverse collection of films, featuring: narrative features from all around the world; documentaries; American indies; shorts programs; special screenings; selected films from SJFS festivals. Select special events will include the presence of guest filmmakers, guest artists, and mixed-media showcases.
