San Joaquin Film Society continues its acclaimed World Cinema Series on Saturday, November 14th with Latino Cinema Day (el Día del Cine Latino): An illuminating mini-series, featuring new and celebrated films from the Americas and exploring contemporary Latino ideas and experiences!

Admission is free.

Funded in part by the Cultural Awareness Programs (CAP) of San Joaquin Delta College and Associated Student Body Government (ASBG) of San Joaquin Delta College.

Featuring: the Forum on Mexican Cinema by film scholar Misha McLaird; Mexican Shorts program featuring new and celebrated works, featuring the Festival de Cannes-winner "Ver Llover" and Adam Taub's "La Quinceañera"; and closing with the poetic, Argentine masterpiece "La Ventana (The Window)" by Carlos Sorin, preceded by "Kid" by Miguel Alvarez.

The Fim Society has been a vibrant presenter of exemplary Latino films. Below are some noteworthy selections since 2008.

El Viaje de La Nonna El Viaje de La Nonna

The Mexican family comedy "El Viaje de La Nonna (Nonna's Trip)" opened the 1st San Joaquin International Film Festival on June 4, 2008. Filmmaker Almudena Carracedo was honored with the Film Society's inaugural Spirit of Humanity Award for her probing documentary "Made in L.A."

Spanish film "The Clown and the Führer," by Eduard Cortes, won the Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature film at the 1st San Joaquin International Film Festival, from June 4-8, 2008.

Chilean-Jewish film "El Brindis" by Shai Agosin was a favorite of the 2nd San Joaquin International Film Festival (May 14-23, 2009) and jump-started Jewish Cinema Day on July 19, 2009.

San Joaquin Film Society

The San Joaquin Film Society, Inc. (SJFS) is the benchmark cinema arts organization in California's 400-mile Central Valley. The Film Society is home to the annual San Joaquin International Film Festival and year-round World Cinema Series.

The Film Society celebrates cinema arts, multi-cultural appreciation, and global outreach through year-round productions of festivals and educational programs.The Film Society is dedicated to celebrating the artistry, diversity, and power of filmmaking, bringing the world's best, rarest, and newest works in cinema arts and media discoveries to the Valley.

The Film Society presents over 100 programs and events annually, featuring over 200 films from 40+ nations; along with 100 visiting directors, actors, luminaries and cinema arts educators; social events and galas, special screenings, and workshops for filmmakers and filmgoers. The Film Society's adventurous programs reach diverse and multi-cultural audiences of the Central Valley and beyond.
