SAN JOAQUIN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

The California Central Valley's premier celebration of global cinema will return to Stockton for its second year from May 14 to 21, 2009, and will feature over 100 films from 30 countries, in 60 programs and events across the multi-cultural city. Featuring: a bold collection of international and award-winning narrative features, documentaries, American indies; highlights to include cinema spotlights, tributes, and an exhilarating collection of the world's top short films; guest filmmakers, parties, and programs for all ages. This will be eight memorable days of celebration, excitement, and surprises!

SAN JOAQUIN CHILDREN'S FILM FESTIVAL

SJFS is proud to introduce the international 2009 San Joaquin Children's Film Festival (January 16 to 18, 2009): a new film festival for kids of all ages. Explore and sample the world of global children cinema right here in the Central Valley at SJCFF09. Experience a special presentation of "Azur and Asmar: The Prince's Quest," a new film by the acclaimed, French animator Michael Ocelot. The flagship film will lead a unique, vibrant, and dynamic collection of 21 feature and short films from around the world

CALIFORNIA INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL

The 1st California International Documentary Film Festival (December 12 to 17, 2009) will be a new, non-competitive, global showcase dedicated to promoting gifted documentarians and dynamic storytellers by cultivating knowledge and understanding of our world through documentary cinema and storytelling. The six-day festival will feature new works, new directors, a spotlight on California documentarians, an exhilirating global showcase, panels, workshops, master tributes, conversations with storytellers, galas, and special events.

SJFS CINEMA ROOM

SJFS Cinema Room: a unique exhibition partnership to present 40 nights of film programs and special events from February to November 2009 at the Matinée Movie Lounge. Within the intimate settings of the Movie Lounge, SJFS will present a richly-diverse collection of films, featuring: worthy narrative features from all around the world; fascinating documentaries; American indies; shorts programs; special screenings; selected films from SJFS festivals; and films of cultural and global significance. Select special events will include the presence of guest filmmakers, guest artists, and mixed-media showcases. (click for more information)

GLOBAL CINEMA SERIES

The Global Cinema Series of 2009 include: Cinema Italia in March, Jewish Film Week in June, and Greek Cinema Showcase in September. These 4 to 6 day events will immerse audiences into the world of gifted filmmakers and storytellers, with a delightful and diverse collection of new works, significant films, and discoveries. FILM SOCIETY SPRING AND AUTUMN GALAS

The San Joaquin Film Society will present two benefit galas throughout the year, one in February, the other in October. The 2009 Spring Gala will be part of the Opening Night of Cinema Italia, and will include the announcement of the Official Selection of the 2009 San Joaquin International Film Festival. The 2009 Autumn Gala will be part of the SJFS Annual Summit. These galas will include a dynamic showcase of films, mixed with fine cuisine and entertainment.

AMBASSADOR AWARD

The Ambassador Award honors an exemplary artist, community advocate, and/or groundbreaking leader from the local community - who endeavors: to promote cross-cultural appreciation; to catalyze the creative arts; to utilize the power of various types of media (which may include film); and to contribute to the quality of life for the greater community and beyond. EDUCATION

SJFS has two educational programs: Youth Video Vision (YVV) and Festival Field Trips. The Mission Statement of YVV is: Empowering youth through the art of filmmaking, multi-media education, cultural appreciation, community advocacy, and mentoring. Festival Field Trips are special outreach programs to local schools. These special events will expose students to the power of global cinema and to be inspired and meet industry professionals. • more info
