Animania

Artists bring the The Haggin Museum to life at Animania Family Festival with demonstrations and workshops that showcase different kinds of animation. Explore the low-tech magic of flip books and shadow puppets with Sean Powers. Practice bringing your cartoon ideas to the page and making a comic panel. Jagged Lines of Imagination instructors Jon Guerzon and Alexis Villanueva will be joining us as well as super science illustrator Paul Ustach, and a student artist from University of the Pacific.

The Museum is proud to welcome international animator Joaquin Baldwin, who will share some of his insights and inspirations with families during this exciting afternoon. Also on display are original animation sequences from the Haggin Museum archives created by Screen Gems Studio Producer Charles Mintz (1896-1940). These charming drawings show short scenes from a Krazy Kat cartoon called The Masque Raid and other creatures from a short called Springtime. Admission: Free to museum members; free to the public with regular admission: $5 adults; $2.50 youth 10-17 and seniors; children under 10 free with adults.

master class by bill plympton @ annual vip brunch

Sunday May 17, 2009 at 10:00AM | Matinée Movie Lounge

Bill Plympton

Experience the annual Filmmakers and VIP Brunch within the intimate Matinée Movie Lounge at the Stockton Empire Theatre. The special program begins with a continental breakfast, along with delicious fruits and juices. Then, experience a fascinating Master Class, presented by world-renown animator, Bill Plympton. At the in-depth seminar (which has been conducted at Pixar, Disney, and Dreamworks), learn from the
man who turned down Disney’s offer of a seven figure salary to work for himself and win every award in the book. Mr. Plympton will share his artistic and business experiences in animated cinema, demonstrate with live drawings, screen exclusive short films from his repertoire, interact in a Q&A session with the audience, and give souvenir drawings to each person in attendance. Tickets are $25.00 General, Senior, Student, $20.00 Member, and are very limited.
